Lampis? Who?“ – this might be the first question when hearing about Lampis. The olympic history of pentathlon started in the year of 708 B.C. In that year the athlete Lampis from Sparta became first olympic winner in pentathlon. Unfortunately it was not handed down which sports represented the antique pentathlon.
Throwers have no lobby. To some extend they lead a wallflower existence among the big family of track and field. A former european top class mid and long distance runner from Germany even claimed to banish shotput, throwing and jumping competitions from Olympic Games and Worldchampionships. This man seems to be out of his mind, to put it mildly. Maybe he should have a look on german medalists at the Worldchampionships 2009 in Berlin. Gravediggers like this – that’s all we needed, while fighting for reputation and being banned to side show activities. Both in public perception and at clubs, federations and promoters. So stop that! Let’s defend ourselves! Together we are strong! That’s why we want to provide a platform for senior throwers, who have been strongly underrepresented in the world wide web. Everybody can join in, everybody can make an active and creative contribution to the platforms success. What are the main goals ?
Platform and forum for throwers :
-
Lampis wants to support and encourage all senior throwers Europe-wide, whereupon we get involved in finding back our species’ way to its place in clubs and meetings. Shotput, discus, javelin, hammer and weight-throwing, thrower’s triathlon and thrower’s-pentathlon are our „spearheads“.
-
There is a – multilingual – thrower-homepage named www.lampis.net, where autorized throwers can register. Afterwards they are able to create their user profile, find informations about our philosophy, competitions, result lists, rankings, training advices, links to interesting websites and many more...
-
Furthermore we explore possibilities of holding constant training sessions under a hall roof as well as outdoors and of organizing throwing-workshops. Beyond that it would be imaginable and desirable to visit competitions together - starting next season - to make promoters see, that throwers are indispensable in a meetings program.
-
Lampis is not a new track and field - club. All activ throwers, independant from nationality and level, are sincerely welcome to our platform. Requirements are the status of a senior (master), membership in a track and field -club and a starting permission.
-
Therewith we certainly are no threat for already existing clubs or federations. Moreover we provide a special motivation and stimulant for often small groups or loners within the clubs.
-
Each innovation has to get a chance. So join in, register or contact the administrators Peter Holthuijsen, Henk van Bakel, Jan Titular, Axel Hermanns or Gottfried Gassenbauer.
Track and field is more than running only…
